What is TAMA Ryu Kempo Jiujitsu? As you know by now, TAMA is an acronym of Taningco Academy of Martial Arts. Ryu means school or style. Kempo or pronounced Kenpo meaning the “art of fist” which is heavily influenced by the Chinese martial arts, then later influenced both the Okinawan and the Japanese martial arts. With full permission from Grandmaster Tim Gasper and the acknowledgment of the founder of USKA – United States Karate Association, Grandmaster Robert Trias. Taningco fused his martial arts with a complete set of the curriculum of what is now called Tama Ryu Kempo Jiujitsu for both the children and adult karate programs.
Grandmaster Taningco was last promoted to 8th Dan Black Belt (Professor) in 1998 in front of his peers of martial artist at the TAMA National Karate Open Tournament here in Dayton by his Kempo Jujitsu instructor of over 30 years from Grandmaster Tim Gasper.

Of course, children are taught to think rationally and logically for self-defense. Grandmaster Taningco encourages the students to use “street smart with common sense” by using their wise decision and with communication before using their martial arts knowledge. The students are taught that they have choices. They can evade an attack without resulting to violence. They can block an attack without resulting in using their offensive martial arts skills. These two options of self-protection have been proven effective. They are also taught to use their communication skills to speak up, and this has been proven very effective due to their self-esteem.



Kid’s Self-defense are categorized with the concept of these three words. Relax, Remember, and React.

What the three “R”s emphasize is:
